New York University (NYU) is a private, nonsectarian, coeducational institution in New York City. NYU's main campus is situated in the Greenwich Village section of Manhattan. Founded in 1831, NYU is the largest private, non-profit institution of higher education in the United States (U.S.), with an enrollment of more than 40,000.[1] NYU comprises 15 schools, colleges, and divisions, occupying six centers throughout Manhattan. A global university, NYU has its own facilities in London, Paris, Florence, Prague, Madrid, Berlin, Accra, Shanghai and will have facilities in Singapore by fall 2007. Proposed sites are also being finalized in Latin America and the Persian Gulf Region and wider Middle East.
